Justice Latan Nyordee of the Port-Harcourt high court has denied bail to the detained leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly Chidi Lloyd on health grounds.
Chidi Lloyd is standing trial on a six- count charge of conspiracy to murder and assault, attempted murder and malicious damage over the violence that broke out on the floor of the assembly on the 9th of July.
His legal representatives had filed an application to secure his bail today due to his deteriorating health situation in police detention.
The court said it cannot grant bail to an accused person that has not been arraigned to plead guilty or not to a charge leveled against him.
The police failed to bring Lloyd to court today contrary to expectation the embattled lawmaker would be in court to take a plea.
