Meet kind-hearted Kian from Sunderland

A four-year-old boy who is battling a rare childhood cancer is helping his family fundraise to buy a caravan where other children with the illness can take short breaks.

Haggerston Castle caravan park became a special place for Kian Armstrong from Castletown in Sunderland after he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of two and half.
The Royal Victoria Infirmary was his home-from-home as he received treatment at the Newcastle hospital's childhood cancer unit on Ward 4.

It was here that he met and became firm friends with another childhood cancer-fighter, Zara.
The two formed a unique bond and spent Valentine’s Day 2013 together as they lay side-by-side in hospital beds.

The little sweethearts went on to spend time together at Haven's Haggerston Castle caravan site before Zara lost her battle with a rare brain cancer and died in March this year.

Now aged four, little Kian told his mum, Jemma, he wanted to buy a caravan at the site so that other ‘poorly kids’ like him could enjoy holidays with their families.
Jemma has vowed to make his wish come true and she, husband Neil and their family are raising funds for Kian’s Gift with sky dives, selling wrist bands and pens and other fundraising events
