The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Tuesday in Abuja congratulated adherents of the Islamic faith, especially women, on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
In the statement signed by Mrs Ayo Adesugba, the Director of Information in the Presidency, the First Lady urged Muslim women to use the opportunity of this day to reflect.
"You should reflect on how women can be part of the vanguard which promotes peaceful co-existence and religious tolerance in their communities individually and collectively.
"I also urge that you use the festive occasion to offer thanksgiving,’’ the statement quoted Jonathan to have said.
The First Lady appealed to them to spare a thought for the less privileged during the season by demonstrating gestures of kindness to them.
As she mentions, it is necessary because Islam is the religion of love and compassion.
Jonathan also pointed out the importance of prayers, and urged all Muslim faithful to use this occasion to offer prayers for the country’s unity, progress and prosperity.
