CHAOS: MOB ATTACKS POLICE STATION IN DELTA

The Delta Police Command has said that a mob, comprising about 200 people, attacked Ashaka Police Station in Ndokwa East Local Government Area on Wednesday.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Lucky Uyabeme, made this known to reporters in Asaba on Thursday.

He said the attack may have been sparked off by the death of a boy who jumped into a river and drowned when the police raided a joint where some people reportedly smoke Indian hemp.

Uyabeme said that the situation was brought under control by the joint action of the police and the military from the Agip Oil Company.

He added that one Emeka Ozegbe and other key suspects of the attack had been arrested.
“The mob destroyed vehicles, shattered the rear glasses of Ashaka and Aboh divisional patrol vehicles parked in the station.’’

He warned that the command would not tolerate attack on its facilities, adding that those who participated in the attack should surrender themselves to the police.
The PPRO urged law abiding residents of Ashaka to go about their lawful business.
