Some leaders of Deeper Life Church who attended the wedding in Jamiaca had condemned and rejected the first wedding gown purchased by the couple as it revealed sensitive body parts…
The couple promised to change the wedding gown on Friday, just a day to the wedding, so the leaders didn’t see the new wedding gown until the beautiful bride appeared at the church where the wedding took place. Their action has caused Pastor Kumuyi a lot of embarrassment as some members of the church now see him in a different light since his son’s "flamboyant" wedding.
Consequently, gathered that the leadership of the Deeper Church has suspended the son of the General Superintendent of the church and his wife, John and Love Kumuyi, from carrying out any activity in the church over their wedding in Jamaica.
John and Love wedded in Jamaica on 15 June, 2013, and thousands of members of the church have reacted sharply while condemning the wedding gown worn by the wife and other aspects of the wedding that were at variance with the church’s standard and Pastor Kumuyi’s preaching.
Another issue was the hiring of a Limousine by the couple, an act seen as reckless.
Due to the myriad of controversies generated by the wedding on the social media, especially by members of Deeper Life, the church decided to place the couple on suspension.
John and Love’s suspension from the church was announced by Pastor Philip Oluwi, a key leader in the church. Pastor Oluwi, who acted on the instruction from Pastor Kumuyi, insisted and re-emphasized that the standard of Deeper Life regarding wedding and moderacy had not changed.
“The church, Deeper Life, remains committed to the biblical practice and standard of almost 40 years Christian dressing and still remains and does not compromise on biblical Christian dressing.
“Hence, deviation warrants the displeasure and frown of God and the leadership of the church. John and Love are now under discipline.”
Earlier reports was that the couple has apologised to the church for the embarrassing way the wedding was conducted , saying they are praying for "repentance".
You may also wish to know that the wedding took place in another church in Jamiaca, not Deeper Life, since the church was yet to be approved by the government of Jamaica for wedding activities.
John Kumuyi and his wife, Love Kumuyi have been banned from attending church after their wedding was seen to be against the standard of the church. John and Love received thousands of negative comments from church members who saw it to be hypocritical for the General Superintendent’s son to wed in a different way from other ordinary members. Many condemned the wedding gown(short sleeve, transparent, fitted, stylish etc) worn by Love, make up and uncovered hair in church. Love was accused of flouting the established doctrine of the church on conservative dressing.
The hired limousine and huge cake was also contrary to the church’s tradition. The church preaches against extravagance and encourages humility, simplicity and modesty.
Considering all these, the church leaders decided to place the couple on suspension to give them time to pray and seek forgiveness from God for their action.
John and Love’s suspension from church activities was announced last Saturday, at Deeper Life’s monthly Miracle and Revival Programme. The news was delivered by Pastor Philip Oluwi, a key leader in the church. Oluwi stressed that the standard of Deeper Life regarding weddings and mode of dressing has not changed.
“The church, Deeper Life, remains committed to the biblical practice and standard of almost 40 years Christian dressing and still remains and does not compromise on biblical Christian dressing. Hence, deviation warrants the displeasure and frown of God and the leadership of the church. John and Love are now under discipline,” Oluwi announced to the entire congregation.
The couple has already apologized to the church for the inappropriate way the wedding was conducted. T
The ‘Letter of Apology,’ was read by Oluwi. In the letter, the couple expressed deepest regret for bringing the church into great disrepute.
